ECG SKILLING AND CERTIFICATION

THE PROJECT
Create a new eLearning curriculum to train new nurses how to interpret dysrhythmias and read ECG strips.
The curriculum scope consisted of 15 eLearning modules and quizzes to be developed using Articulate Storyline 360.
Learning modules needed to be flexible so that working nurses could upskill and reskill while on-the-job and become certified.

THE IMPACT
Hands-on skills
The eLearning modules were 1:1 with real-world ECG strip readers, so nurses could develop or upskill their hands-on ECG skills, reaction speed, and decision making abilities while under stress.Self-paced skilling modules
The Curriculum was delivered as a flexible, self-paced, prescriptive solution, allowing nurses to take content while working on the job with minimal disruption.

Narrative Design and Real-World Patient Scenarios
I used a narrative style to teach the content so that students are not just fed information, but follow patients through real-world scenarios in each module. This improved immersion, empathy, retention, and allowed students to see the outcomes of their decisions by observing how the patient fared in the end. Branching was used in patient decision making to condition nurses to identify irregularities early and respond to patients’ needs quickly.
Robust UI
Designed a robust UI that provides the student access to various tools and side information to help them throughout the course including: Glossary, Resources, Patient Clipboard, Calculator, and an on-screen ECG Caliper tool.

Built a fully functioning on-screen ECG caliper tool and set up a bank of real patient ECG strips to provide hands-on real-world experience.
Modular Design
Content was broken down into a modular design and delivered as a flexible, self-paced, prescriptive solution, allowing nurses to take content while working with minimal disruption.
